    *Note: The BMS Theater has flexible hours depending on the schedule of events.

  • For Private Lessons, ARY, and most group classes the minimum age is 5 years old. However, we offer a variety of Early Childhood classes for children 10 months to 4 years. Please check out the course offerings on the Early Childhood Department page.

We are currently taking stock of our inventory to reevaluate which instruments and equipment we can accept for donations. *Please note: At this time, we not accepting donations for upright or grand pianos.   • We follow the DOE calendar. If NYC public schools are closed then we are also closed. All private lessons missed due to school closures are automatically excused. There are no makeups for missed group classes.

  • No.

  • Yes. Currently we offer Group Classes, Ensembles, and Private Lessons for Adults! Please check out our Adult Programming Department page for more information.

  • Yes. It is in a locked room. Please come to the front desk if you feel you have misplaced something and we will assist you in accessing the lost and found.

  • Unfortunately, our building is not wheelchair accessible at this time. Due to the age of the building and space allowance, there is no elevator. The building has four floors.

    However, our theater is wheelchair accessible via a ramp in the front.

  • Yes! Instrument rentals are $20/month. We sell sheet music, and most books are $10. Equipment rentals must be handled on a case-by-case basis. Please contact the Registrar for more info (registrar@brooklynmusicschool.org).

Registration FAQ’s

  • If the lesson is canceled/notice is given 24 hours ahead of the time of the lesson there can be a makeup schedules.

    Missed lessons can be marked as an excused absence as long as the registrar is notified 24-hours in advance of the missed lesson. This excused absence can be made-up at a later date before then end of the academic year. Lessons that are unable to be recovered by the end of the academic year can be credited towards the student's account and applied towards future enrollments.

    A missed lesson that was not notified 24 hours in advance will be considered UNEXCUSED and the teacher is within their right to bill for the missed lesson without scheduling a makeup.

  • No. With the exception of trial lessons or classes, all students must register for a payment plan. Please see information regarding our payment plans below.

  • If you are interested in private lessons you can fill out a lesson inquiry form online (https://bms.asapconnected.com/#PrivateLessons) or call us at (718) 290-2760.

    The process of signing up students for private lessons can take anywhere from 1 to 2 weeks depending on availability. Once a teacher is found we then register students with a trial lesson to make sure the lesson time and the teacher is a good match.

    If you wish to continue taking lessons after the trial lesson, we register students through the full academic year (Fall and Spring), or duration remaining at the time of registration.

    Example: If a trial lesson is taken mid-winter term, following lessons would be scheduled for the duration of winter and spring terms.

  • • There is a 5% discount applied to students who pay in full for an entire semester or year of enrollment.

    • We offer an “early bird” discount for early registration for our academies and Summer Institute.

    • Although we do not offer a sibling discount for families with multiple children for the majority of our programming, we do offer scholarships and financial aid, for which you can apply via our online application. Supplemental documentation must be submitted to complete the application along with payment for 1 month of tuition while we process your application. There IS a sibling discount for our Homeschool Program.

    • Financial aid is awarded on a needs-basis and maintained on merit. Students who have been awarded financial aid are expected to meet a standard of attendance and participation in student recitals, concerts, and other activities here at BMS.

    • For our young students enrolled in private lessons we offer free ensembles ranging from Jazz to Youth Orchestra.

  • • You and a friend will receive a $25 tuition credit when they enroll in a semester of BMS programming. Offer applies to both in-person and online programming. Semester tuition must be paid in full for credits to be applied for the new student and current (referring) student.

    • You and a friend will receive one free class when they sign up for the Early Childhood Music & Movement 10 Class Pass. The pass combines affordability and flexibility with Brooklyn’s best Early Childhood Music & Movement classes! The BMS 10 Class pass can be used for both in-person and online programming.

    • You and a friend will receive $15 in Room Rental credit when they book 5 sessions. Space rental fees must be paid in full for credit to be applied for the new student and current (referring) student.

  • Yes! We offer several payment plans: monthly, trimester, and pay-in-full. Payments are scheduled on the 1st or 15th of each payment month according to your preference.

COVID-19 FAQ’s

  • No, as of February 10th, 2023, vaccination is no longer required for all students, visitors entering school buildings, employees, and those participating in high risk extracurricular activities.

  • Students and staff who test positive for COVID-19 must isolate for 5 days and can return to school on day 6 if they have no symptoms or symptoms are improving. They should wear a mask until day 10 after symptom onset or date of positive test, whichever is earlier. Masks may be removed during this period if the person has received two negative rapid tests 48 hours apart. Students and staff should stay home if they show any symptoms of COVID-19 or other illnesses and get tested for COVID-19.

  • Students and staff who test positive for COVID-19 must isolate for 5 days and can return to school on day 6 if they have no symptoms or symptoms are improving. They should wear a mask until day 10 after symptom onset or date of positive test, whichever is earlier. Masks may be removed during this period if the person has received two negative rapid tests 48 hours apart.

  • In schools, people who were exposed to COVID-19 should follow recommendations to wear a well-fitting mask and get tested twice, at least 48 hours apart.

    The CDC recommends that those exposed to COVID-19, regardless of vaccination status or history of prior COVID-19 infection, wear a well-fitting mask for 10 days in public indoor settings (including school settings) and test on or after day 5 (or sooner if symptoms develop). All exposed individuals should monitor for fever and other COVID-19 symptoms for 10 days after their exposure. If symptoms begin, they should not attend school and should isolate and get tested for COVID-19 again right away.

  • Individuals should wear a mask until day 10 after symptom onset or date of positive test, whichever is earlier. Some people who recover from COVID may test positive for weeks or even months after they were sick. Continue to monitor for symptoms and mask when advised.

 COVID-19 Safety Protocols at BMS

  • Masks will be optional for all students, visitors, teachers and staff. However, we do strongly encourage mask-wearing in common/highly populated areas of the building.

  • All students, visitors, teachers and staff who experience any symptom(s) related to Covid-19 are expected to refrain from coming to BMS until symptoms have subsided.

  • Distancing when possible is recommended to prevent the spread of infection.

  • All office personnel have been trained on the process for responding to COVID-related incidents, and alerting the leadership administration.

  • If any student, staff, parent or caregiver tests positive for COVID, has a known or suspected exposure to someone with COVID, or has symptoms of any kind that align with COVID, they should report this to the BMS staff immediately at badamczyk@brooklynmusicschool.org.

  • We clean and sanitize the BMS facility frequently and have PPE/sanitizing supplies throughout the building.

  1. We recommend the following best practices for reducing the spread of COVID-19.

    • Vaccination: Vaccination is the best way to reduce COVID-19 risk. We strongly encourage the COVID-19 vaccination for all age-eligible students.

      • Up to date includes boosters for everyone who is eligible and additional primary shots for some immunocompromised people. See At-A-Glance COVID-19 Vaccination Schedules (cdc.gov).

      • Vaccination Requirements, as of February 10, 2023:

        • Vaccination is no longer required for all visitors entering school buildings

        • Vaccination is no longer required for all employees

        • Vaccination is no longer required to participate in high-risk extracurricular activities including high-risk PSAL sports 

    • Daily Health Screener:

      • No longer required to enter school buildings 

    • School Visitor Policy

      • Effective February 10, 2023, visitors entering schools are no longer required to provide proof of vaccination. 

    • Stay home if sick: Students and staff should stay home if they show any symptoms of COVID-19 or other illnesses and get tested for COVID-19. 

    • Isolate if COVID-19 positive: Students and staff who test positive for COVID-19 must isolate for 5 days and can return to school on day 6 if they have no symptoms or symptoms are improving. They should wear a mask until day 10 after symptom onset or date of positive test, whichever is earlier. Masks may be removed during this period if the person has received two negative rapid tests 48 hours apart.

      • These cases should be reported to their school so they can be reported into the sit room for exposure notifications.

    • Get tested if exposed to COVID-19: Students and staff who are exposed to COVID-19 should get tested.

      • These individuals should receive home tests from their school and take two tests, at least 48 hours apart. All exposed individuals should monitor for fever and other COVID-19 symptoms for 10 days after their exposure. If symptoms begin, they should not attend school and should isolate and get tested for COVID-19 again right away. 

      • To find a testing site offering rapid tests, visit nyc.gov/covidtest, text “COVID TEST” to 855-48, or call 311

    • Masking- Face coverings are strongly recommended, though not required, to be worn when indoors. As of December 9, 2022, the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene has issued a universal indoor masking recommendation(Open external link) for all indoor settings, including schools and daycare centers, given very high rates of flu and other respiratory conditions. Masks will be made available at the school for all those who need/want them.

      • Students and staff, regardless of vaccination status, must wear a mask when:

        • Returning to school on the sixth day after testing positive for COVID-19, through day 10 after symptom onset or date of positive test, whichever is earlier, including when traveling on a school bus. Masks may be removed during this period if the person has received two negative rapid tests 48 hours apart.

        • Entering the school medical room, nurse’s office, or school-based health center.

        • Exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 at school.

      • Students and staff, regardless of vaccination status, are also strongly recommended to wear a mask:

        • When they were exposed to someone with COVID-19, whether the exposure occurred in school or outside of school. The person should wear a mask for 10 days after their last day of exposure and get tested at least 48 hours apart.

        • When they are moderately-to-severely immunocompromised, and masking is recommended by their healthcare provider.

        • In crowded outdoor settings 

    • School Building Cleaning:

      • All classrooms and common areas, such as auditoriums and lobbies will have hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes available.

    • School Closure

      • Schools will be closed only when it is determined by the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) that there is widespread transmission in the school. With the health and safety measures in place, we expect that school closures will be limited.
