Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

At Brooklyn Music School, diversity, equity, and inclusion are guiding principles in our commitment to accessible education. We believe that access to the arts is a right, not a privilege, and are committed to ensuring that people of all identities, abilities, and experiences have the opportunity to learn, create, and thrive in our community.

Our commitment to a diverse, inclusive, and equitable environment is embedded in our decision making and daily practices. We strive to cultivate an environment where every student, family, teaching artist, and staff member feels seen, valued, and empowered to express themselves fully. We celebrate the many perspectives that enrich our Fort Greene community, knowing that our differences are what make us stronger, more innovative, and more connected.

As we venture into the future, BMS recognizes that true inclusion requires continuous learning, adaptation, and accountability. We are committed to valuing the voices of all people, regardless of socioeconomic status, racial background, gender expression, sexual orientation, and ability. We would not be where we are today without the strength of our community, and it is our duty to ensure that BMS remains a space where all people are respected and appreciated. Together, we can continue to build a future where the transformative power of the arts is accessible to and representative of all.

We would like to acknowledge that Brooklyn Music School and the Playhouse Theater occupy Lenni Lenape Land.
