Emily Wilcox, MM, MT-BC
Music Therapy
Emily Wilcox is a a music therapist and music teacher with over 7 years of experience working with children, teens, and young adults. She received her Bachelor of Music in Music Education and Performance from Ithaca College and her Master of Music in Music Therapy from Ohio University.
As a violinist, Emily began her career teaching strings both in public schools and privately. Emily is a registered Suzuki teacher and draws on the developmental approach of the Suzuki Method in her adaptive lesson instruction. Emily believes in fostering a love of music through musical exploration in adaptive lessons and helping students develop tools to use music as a creative outlet in other areas of their lives.
Emily completed her music therapy internship with the Louis Armstrong Center for Music and Medicine where she specialized in pediatrics, oncology, and led music therapy groups for children with asthma in the NYC public schools. Her music therapy work is grounded in the idea of musical play; creating a space where clients can freely express themselves through musical exploration and creation within the therapeutic relationship. Currently, Emily is the music therapist at the Dolly & Frank Russo First Step Early Childhood Center, where she provides group and individual music therapy for children with disabilities.
