The winner of the 2nd Prize in the 2020 Carinthia Jazz Award and a semi-finalist in the inaugural Michael Brecker International Saxophone Competition in 2019, Nathan Bellott’s beautiful sound, expression and artistry is capturing the attention of listeners worldwide. After attending SUNY Purchase College and the New School he did his "graduate school" work playing lead alto with master Charli Persip's SUPERSOUND for 5 years while simultaneously playing in legend Hal Galper's "Youngbloods" quartet. Galper's 2017 Origin Records release Live at the COTA Jazz Festival was met with critical and popular acclaim.
Nathan performs in NYC and beyond with a variety of artists as well as with his own ensembles. He is a regular with Bobby Sanabria, The Birdland Big Band, Steven Oquendo, Valery Ponomarev, George Gee, Stan Rubin, The Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra and more. His own studies with masters include Jon Gordon, David Binney, Hal Galper, Jaleel Shaw, Dave Liebman, Bob Mover, Charles McPherson, Barry Harris, Mark Shim, Jacob Sacks, Dan Weiss, Andrew Cyrille, Andy Milne and others who have given him a unique approach to the instrument and music.
In early 2024 he released his first album “way down east”, a solo saxophone recording made from a concert given in Lubec featuring music by himself, Duke Ellington, Björk and Ben Solomon; it is available exclusively online via Bandcamp. Internationally he has performed in Colombia, France, Italy, Germany, Israel and the Philippines. For the past three summers he has taught in downeast Maine at Summerkeys, A Musical Adventure in the rustic town of Lubec.
